Your First Meeting Checklist
  • Arrival: Try to arrive 10 minutes early to meet the Senior Patrol Leader.
  • Parents: Plan to stay for the first 15 minutes for a quick "New Parent" brief.
  • Buddy System: Your Scout will be introduced to a Troop Guide or Patrol Leader immediately.
  • What to bring: A water bottle and a notebook or pen.
The Gear: What you need vs. What we provide

You provide:

  • The Uniform: The "Class A" khaki shirt, scout pants or shorts, and belt. (We have a gear swap for used items!)
  • The Handbook: The Scouts BSA Handbook (spiral bound is best).
  • Personal Gear: Sleeping bag, mess kit, and water bottle.

The Troop provides:

  • Group Gear: Tents, stoves, lanterns, and trailers.
  • Specialty Items: Shoulder loops, bolo ties, and handbooks are provided to Arrow of Light bridgeover Scouts at no cost.
  • Training: Adult mentorship and leadership coaching for all Scouts.
Registration & Dues (Transparent Breakdown)

To keep the program running, we have three primary costs:

  • National BSA Fee: Youth (~$85/yr) | Adult (~$65/yr).
  • Troop 234 Dues: $15/month (Supports local gear and advancement).
  • One-Time Join Fee: $25 for brand-new youth members.

Note: We never want cost to be a barrier. We offer multiple fundraisers (Popcorn, Wreaths, etc.) to help Scouts earn their own way.

Required Forms & Paperwork

Before our first campout, we need these on file for every participant (Scouts and adults).

Quick rule:
  • Parts A and B are needed for all activities.
  • Part C is needed for any event that lasts 72+ hours (example: summer camp, Wood Badge, jamborees, multi-day treks).

Part A (Consent and Emergency Care)

Permission to participate, emergency treatment authorization, and key consent items.

Part B (Health History)

This is the medical history and meds section. In the packet, it is split into B1 and B2.

Part B1 (General Info and Health History)

Contact info, insurance info, and the main health history checklist.

Part C (Physical Exam)

Completed by a licensed medical provider. Required for 72+ hour events and strongly recommended annually.

Troop 234 Photo and Media Release

Lets the troop share photos on troop channels without using a Scout’s full name.

Also needed:

  • BSA Youth Application: Completed online via BeAScout or your troop registrar.
  • Insurance card copy: Attach a copy of both sides if you have insurance.

Heads up: Keep forms current through the end date of the event. Bring updated meds in original containers.

The Advancement Path (Scout to Eagle)

Scouts work at their own pace. The journey follows these ranks:

  1. Early Ranks: Scout, Tenderfoot, 2nd Class, 1st Class (Focus on outdoor skills).
  2. Leadership Ranks: Star, Life, Eagle (Focus on service and leading others).

Our Scoutmasters hold "conferences" to help Scouts set goals for their next rank.
